Historic renovation of a 1904 Craftsman home in Ashland, Oregon.
Benchmark Builders removed the entire upper story of this 1904 Craftsman and created a new second story with two bedrooms and two baths, accessed by an elegant cherry staircase, all while respecting the original proportion and style of the house. The result is a charming, expanded home with hip-roofed dormers, large windows, and a shingled porch that shows off the original rusticated block construction. Respecting the original window placements, the downstairs remodel re-created arched wall openings and improved the spatial flow, an aesthetic approach that correctly interprets the Craftsman style while meeting the needs of a modern family. Winner of Ashland’s 2009 Historically Compatible Residential Addition and Renovation award.
